January 2010
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to Class 8. I hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas holidays. I am looking forward to a busy term as we begin to prepare for SATs in May. This newsletter will give you some information about your child’s weekly timetable, the content of the curriculum for the term and additional information or reminders.
Class timetable
- PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pupils need to bring the appropriate kit and remember not to wear earrings on these days.
- Homework days are Tuesday and Friday.
- Please make comments in your child’s homework diary if you have helped them or if they have experienced any difficulties with the work.
- Children still need to be reading regularly at home if they are to make sufficient progress. Please encourage your child to make a note in the back of their reading record book of any other texts they may read on their own.
Curriculum
- Some of the curriculum areas will not be taught this term; additional time will be given to Mathematics and Literacy as these are the subjects the children will be tested on in May.
Other useful information
- My PPA time is on Wednesday mornings when Mr D Webb will be teaching creative writing and Mr D Harvey, Spanish.
- Booster classes will now begin on Tuesday January 12 and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday until May. It is expected that all children attend these sessions as it gives us an opportunity to work with small groups. The children, who are to receive one to one sessions however, need not attend the booster for that subject but are expected to attend for the other subject.
- SATS this year will be held from Monday 10 May to Friday 14 May. Holiday days should not be taken during this week as they cannot be granted by the school.
