January 2011

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all back after the Christmas holiday and hope you have had an enjoyable break . There are a lot of new things happening in school and it is a very exciting time. As the teacher of Class 6 at the moment I hope you will feel comfortable to come and discuss any concerns with me. I aim to keep you as informed as possible with any changes that might be happening and look forward to teaching the class.

Class timetable

P.E is on a Tuesday afternoon and a Wednesday afternoon with Mr Netherwood . It is essential that your child has their P.E kit available in school for this day and that any earrings are removed. Although P.E is on a Tuesday and a Wednesday , I would appreciate their kits staying in school until Friday. Then if the weather is favourable we might use the field for some extra activities. Spellings are given to pupils on a Monday and a spelling test is carried out on a Wednesday morning. Maths homework will be issued on a Wednesday and homework around the topic will be set for over the weekend.

  • Curriculum

The children are exploring a theme of Invaders and Settlers this term and looking at the Romans and the Vikings. They will be looking at key historical dates, the impact that these people had on England and how they used to live. The children will also be looking closely at making Viking longboats and Roman pottery. Class 6 will continue to have literacy and numeracy lessons everyday and where appropriate their work will be linked in a meaningful way to the history topic and will include creating information texts about the Vikings and Romans and letter writing in the role of a soldier. The children continue to have French with Madame Paton on a Tuesday morning, which is followed up with Mrs Wilcox where appropriate.

Other useful information

In my role as Deputy Headteacher I have one day on Tuesday, every week out of class. The class will be taught by Mr Walley and Mrs Wilcox. I also have PPA on a Wednesday afternoon where the class are taught by Mr Netherwood and Mr Webb.

September 2010

Dear Parents

Firstly, a very warm welcome back to school to all pupils and families! I hope everyone had a relaxing summer break. This term I have taken over the Year 4 class in school as Mrs Kitchen is still away from work. Please find relevant information regarding our timetable and staffing arrangements listed below although more detailed Curriculum activities are on the attached sheet.

Class timetable

  • My PPA time will be on a Wednesday afternoon. Mr D Webb (Literacy) and Mr P Netherwood (PE) will cover my class.
  • Homework days are Tuesday and Friday. Spellings will be given on a Tuesday and tested on Friday of the same week. Friday’s homework will relate to an area of learning each week that your child is working on in class and should be returned on Monday morning. Please ensure that Homework Diaries and Reading Record Diaries are brought into school on a daily basis in order for them to be kept up to date. If your child completes their reading book at home please ensure that they put it (together with their Reading Record Diary) on my desk as soon as possible. I will then listen to them and sort out their next book.
  • Our class will be supported by Mrs Pickering, Mrs Ward and Ms Heppinstall.
  • PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday although we will occasionally have extra sporting activities on a Friday afternoon. Pupils should bring a full PE kit (white top, black shorts/skirt, pumps) plus additional warm clothing.

Curriculum

  • Year 4 has a very busy curriculum timetable. Despite this, I hope to challenge the pupils creatively and ensure that learning is always well-paced and enjoyable whilst ensuring a well balanced and fun curriculum.
  • If your child is going to be absent from school please let us know as soon as possible.
  • Pupils are encouraged to bring fresh water to school every day in their own water bottles which they should take home every evening to clean and replenish.
  • Pupils may bring fruit, vegetables or a salad item to eat at morning break time.
