Class 4 – The Magpies
A Nest Full Of Treasuresclass4

The class 4 ‘Little Treasures’ are 30 Year 2 children. Our teacher is called Mrs Burnett. We also have some help from our lovely teaching assistants Mrs Grace, Mrs Broadhurst and Mrs Ramsbottom.
Like our namesake we are bright, athletic and inquisitive. We work hard together gathering information, sharing ideas and helping each other.

We are working hard to try and keep to our classroom rules and to achieve our personal targets.

This term our theme has been ‘Ourselves’. We have learnt
lots about our bodies including; our five senses, our skeleton, eating a healthy diet and the five major food groups. We have also made our own healthy packed lunches!

Dear Parents and Carers
Happy New Year, and welcome back to the start of a new term. The children have settled back into class and are now preparing and working towards Key Stage 1 SATs as well as completing their usual class work. This newsletter will give you some information about the content of the curriculum for the term and additional information or general reminders.
Class timetable
PE is on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Pupils need to bring the appropriate kit including pumps. Long hair must be tied back and earrings must be removed.
Spellings will be given on Mondays, to be learned for a test on Friday of the same week.
Other homework will be given on Fridays, to be returned on Monday of the following week.

Curriculum
We will continue to follow the National frameworks in Literacy and Numeracy.
Language & Literacy - Our focus in Literacy will be the correct spelling of high frequency words, basic punctuation, handwriting skills and reading with understanding. In writing we will focus on poetry, traditional stories and information texts.
Mathematical Development - Our focus in Numeracy will be counting and properties of numbers, mental calculations, money, shape and measure. We are also working on 2, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.
Science - Our science topic will be ‘Electricity’ including safety, batteries and mains and
simple circuits and switches.
History - In history we will study the topic of life in the time of Queen Victoria, including
famous people (Mary Seacole and Thomas Eddison).
Art & DT - We will be designing and making greetings cards for Mothers day and Easter. We will also look at the work of Victorian artists and make a collage of Queen Victoria.
ICT - During our ICT work we will search for information held on a CD Rom and present information using pictures and text boxes in a Publisher document.
Music - As part of our music work we will be exploring rhythm, pulse and pitch, and looking at Victorian music hall songs.
P.E. - During our P.E. sessions we will concentrate on developing our skills of movement and balance through gymnastics, and focus on sequences of movements and body control through dance.
R.E. - We will study the celebration of Easter during our R.E lessons.
PHSE - Our lessons will continue to follow the SEAL activities related to ‘Going for Goals’ and ‘Good to be Me’.

During this term we will continue to assess the children on a regular basis.
These assessments will enable us to teach to the specific needs of the
individuals. Therefore, any specific weaknesses can be easily identified, and from time to time your child may receive extra pieces of homework in order to support their learning in particular areas. Your continued support in these matters is greatly appreciated. It would be very helpful if you are able to make any relevant comments in your child’s homework diary regarding any support given or difficulties that your child has encountered.
All pupils will be taking part in guided reading sessions on a weekly basis; as a result we will be unable to listen to individual readers on our usual regular basis. It is important that your child puts their individual reading book into the green basket on the bookshelf when it needs changing. Could you please remind your child to do this when they come into the classroom in the mornings.

Other Business
The next two terms are very important for your child and we really appreciate your continued support. We have already sent out the new literacy and numeracy targets which aim to provide you with ways that you can help and support your child in order to move them on to the next level.
My PPA time during this half term will be on Thursday afternoons, when the children will be taught by Mrs Wilcox, following our usual timetable.

If you have any questions, worries or concerns please do not hesitate to discuss them with us.
I hope your children will continue to enjoy being in Class 4, our door is always open!
