Dear Parents and Carers Welcome to a new year in Class 3. I hope that you have all enjoyed your Christmas holiday. This newsletter will give you some information about the content of the curriculum for the term and additional information or reminders.
Class timetable
•PE is on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Pupils need to bring the appropriate kit, ensuring that all items of clothing are clearly named. Please remember to remove any jewellery on these days. •Homework days are Monday (learning weekly spellings) and Friday (which is a Literacy or Numeracy task related to work being currently undertaken).
Other useful information Children are encouraged to read regularly at home. When listening to your child read his/her school reading book would you please comment and sign the reading record provided. It would be greatly beneficial to know your thoughts about how he/she is finding the given text. My PPA time (planning, preparation and assessment) out of the classroom will be taken on Friday afternoon.
If you have any question, worries or concerns please do not hesitate to discuss them with me, preferably after school at the end of the day.

Mathematical Development •To use the vocabulary related to addition and subtraction and symbols to describe and record addition and subtraction number sentences. Estimate, measure and compare objects, choosing suitable uniform non-standard or standard units and measuring instruments.
Language & Literacy •Listening to and reading a range of traditional stories, fairy stories, nursery rhymes and rhymes with familiar and patterned language, including action verses. To compose and write sentences with a greater amount of independence. To continue the daily session of Letters and Sounds, which is a multi-sensory process of reinforcing phonic recognition.
Science •To find out the differences between day/night time and light/dark. Discussing, recording outcomes. To learn that many everyday appliances uses electricity and to understand the dangers if not used safely.
ICT •To find information using various programmes. Collecting and storing information.
History •To develop a greater understanding of the life of Queen Victoria and how Victorian culture has shaped how we live today. Art •To explore shape and patterns by using different materials and media. DT •To design, make and evaluate a Victorian cross stitch sampler. Music •To explore rhythm and pulse. Listening to different pieces of music written by various composers. PE •Gymnastics. How to find and use space safely, developing control and co-ordination. Dance and movement.
RE/PHSE •The significance of the Christian celebrations of Easter and Lent. Circle Time, sharing and discussing personal and classroom issues and concerns.
