Dear Parent

VISIT TO ROBIN HOOD’S BAY Y5 and Y6 PUPILS

Subject to there being sufficient funds we have arranged for Y5 and Y6 pupils to spend Thursday 27 May at Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby. The aim of the visit is to stimulate their Creative Writing in Literacy, cover the Geography Module on Contrasting Locations in Humanities and aid Landscape painting in Art.

The party will travel by bus, which will leave school at 0830 and return at approximately 1700. The suggested voluntary contribution per child will be £10.00 to cover the bus fare and insurance. You may, of course pay by instalments, in which case you should send a non-returnable deposit of £5 to school as soon as possible.

As pupils will be representing the School, their behaviour MUST be of the highest standard; they will travel in comfortable clothing – which MUST include a white shirt/top and school jumper/cardigan (for identification purposes). Footwear must be practical and comfortable as the visit will include a lot of walking. A packed lunch will be required; drinks should NOT be in glass bottles. Spending money should be limited to a maximum of £6.00

I will be glad if you will complete and return to school as soon as possible the attached slip. All monies to be paid no later than Friday 14 May, cheques made payable to Shafton Primary School please.

Please note that since 1 April 1989 and the introduction of the Education Reform Act such activities come under the Governors’ Charging Policy; if there are insufficient funds available the activity will not proceed.

Yours sincerely

Dear parents

Key stage 2 SATs begin on 10 May and, for our school, will continue all week. I have enclosed a timetable so that you know which tests are held on which days. All tests will be held during the morning session.

To help your child during this week could you ensure that they are well rested and have a suitable breakfast. If your child does not eat breakfast then it would benefit them if you provided them with a piece of fruit to bring to school. They will be allowed to eat this before the morning session of school begins.

To enable us to begin the tests on time it would be helpful if your child could be at school for 8.55 am. As the tests will be held in the hall we need to be out in time for lunch to be served. To do this we need a prompt start at the beginning of the day.

This week will be the last week for booster classes and homework until after the Spring Bank holiday. Whilst we will still be working hard in class next week the children need to relax once they get home

May I take this opportunity to thank you for making it possible for your chid to stay after school for booster classes and one to one sessions.

Yours sincerely

To parents of pupils in Year 6

Dear Parent

SEX EDUCATION LESSONS

As part of the Year 6 Summer Term curriculum, we intend to teach the pupils a short series of lessons incorporating programmes produced by the BBC for schools on the subject of sex education aimed at the 8 to 13 age range. The programmes are similar to those used in previous years; Mrs Gillespie, the School Nurse will deliver the lessons with Mrs Maloney.

An informal meeting has been arranged with Mrs Gillespie and Mrs Maloney on Thursday 13 May from 3.30pm to 4.15pm so you can hear about the lessons, preview some of the programmes, discuss their content and perhaps voice any concerns regarding how the subject will be approached with the children in lesson time. The meeting will be held in Class 8.

Please note that this meeting is for parents only. To indicate whether you intend to be present, please return the attached slip to school as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely
